Kayunga, Uganda – The community of Kayunga is in shock and mourning following the brutal murder of a local businesswoman. According to reports, the victim a 34-year-old woman was waylaid and hacked to death in Kayonza Town in Kayonza Sub-county last evening in what appears to be a targeted attack.
The victim has been identified as Nalongo Nabikolo who was the proprietor of a local hardware store. She was reportedly on her way home from work when she was attacked by unknown assailants who ambushed her along a secluded road.
Kayunga district CID boss, Ms Beatrice Ajwang said Passersby found Nabikolo’s body as it lay in a pool of blood. According to Ms. Ajwang, one of the possible causes under investigation is retaliation after people informed the police that Nabikolo’s spouse had been accused of using witchcraft to murder their coworkers.
“We have received unconfirmed reports that the act was done by residents as revenge against her for the act of witchcraft by her husband against locals,” Ms Ajwang said.
Mande, her husband, allegedly left the area after getting death threats from locals who claimed he had murdered one of their coworkers using witchcraft.
According to Mr. John Muramuzi, the chairman of the Kayonza Sub-county, several residents of Bbaale County have had their homes demolished or been killed by neighbors who believe they are practicing witchcraft.
The murder has shocked the neighborhood, and many people have expressed their outrage and demanded justice for the victim. Several local leaders have called for more security measures in the area and have also denounced the attack.
According to Mr. John Muramuzi, the chairman of the Kayonza Sub-county, several residents of Bbaale County have had their homes demolished or been killed by neighbors who believe they are practicing witchcraft.
The tragedy has raised questions about Uganda’s escalating rates of violent crime and the necessity for more aggressive measures to combat it.
