The race for the Dokolo District Woman Representative seat in Parliament intensifies as 14 candidates vie for the position left vacant by the demise of Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal.

Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal, daughter of the late incumbent, leads the contenders, with others, including Ms. Sarah Aguti Nyangkori and Ms. Janet Rose Adong Elau, joining the fray.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election for March 21, initiating a series of preparatory measures, including voter registration updates and candidate nominations.

Justice Simon Byabakama, EC chairperson, recently visited Dokolo District to engage with stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and support in ensuring a smooth electoral process.

Beyond the parliamentary vacancy, attention is drawn to other vacant positions at the Local Government Council levels, including councillor roles for Adakmon Parish and Bata Sub-county, addressing diverse representation needs.

Dr. Alwoc Ogwal underscores transparency as a pivotal issue, advocating for voter registration accessibility and inclusivity.

The electoral roadmap encompasses voter register updates, nomination processes, and campaign activities, culminating in polling and result tallying on March 21.
