Ever since Kyadondo Esat Member of parliament Hon Robert Kyagulanyi commonly known by his stage name Bobi wine revealed his ambitions to contest for presidential seat, things on his side especially his freedom have been moving from worse to worst.
Starting with the Arua chaos where his driver Yasin Kawuma lost is life after he was hit by a stray bullet. Bobi and his allies Wadri, Zaake and others were charged with treason and inciting violence among youths to stone the presidential motorcade.
In a move to quell Kyagulanyi’s ambitions the NRM die-hards have mooted a new deadly move to overcome Bobi Wine and other very troubling political opponents.
In a Monday evening meeting, a group of cabinet Ministers and strong NRM MPs informally discussed the possibility of a private members bill making it mandatory for all Presidential, LC5 and MP candidates to undergo drug/Weed substance abuse tests as part of their nomination requirements by the EC.
To show good faith, they have offered to voluntarily have public drug/substance use tests as part of the efforts to mobilize public support for the new proposals they are mooting to the electoral laws.
One minister privy to the plan said that they are being inspired by the Ukrainian example where several would-be strong contenders were disqualified by the EC on the account of their previous use of prohibited substances in the years leading to the electoral period.
The proposal is to lock out whoever has used these substances in the 5 years preceding nominations. The MPs and Ministers say there will be a small task force to market the same to Museveni this very week.
They are also planning to test the proposal’s popularity during today’s NRM caucus meeting that will be chaired by Museveni himself.
