Police have said Andrew Mukasa of Bajjo Events and a supporter of People Power movement faces treason charges.
Mukasa was arrested on Saturday by security officers and taken into custody.
However, the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said the Special Investigations Division of the police is investigating Bajjo over a video in which he was recorded threatening to overthrow President Museveni before the next election in 2021.
“The investigation will lead to charges of treason and threatening violence slapped against Mukasa,”Enanga told a news conference on Monday.
In the online trending video that was shared throughout social media platforms, the accused Mr. Bajjo is vividly seen threatening to oust President Museveni’s government before 2021 and warning the army against standing in their way during the oust.
Police Spokesman Enanga explained that Mr Museveni is a lawfully elected president of Uganda and as such he enjoys all privileges, adding that it calls for a criminal offence if anyone threatens of ousting him using force.
“We warn the public against spreading the video,” he said.
He said currently investigations are still in progress but he confirmed that when completed, the case file will be immediately be sent to the prosecutor’s office or Director of Public Prosecutions for perusal and resultant arraignment in courts of law.
