Manchester United has officially completed the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan. The 27-year-old Cameroon international has agreed to a five-year contract, with the option for a 12-month extension.
Onana will be taking up the role of Erik ten Hag’s new No.1 goalkeeper following the departure of David de Gea. The two will reunite after spending five successful seasons together at Ajax.
Onana expressed his excitement about joining Manchester United, stating that it is an incredible honor for him.
He worked hard throughout his career to reach this moment, and he is looking forward to defending the team’s goal at Old Trafford and contributing to its success.
Having played a crucial role in Inter’s journey to the Champions League final in the 2022-23 season, Onana’s skills are highly anticipated at Manchester United.
His arrival comes after David de Gea confirmed his departure from the club at the end of his contract.
De Gea, who made 545 appearances for Manchester United, expressed gratitude for his time at the club and the success achieved during his tenure.
He mentioned that it was the right time for him to embark on a new challenge and continue pushing himself in new surroundings.
Andre Onana will have big gloves to fill as he takes on the role of Manchester United’s goalkeeper, following in the footsteps of the club’s history of incredible goalkeepers.
His signing is the second major addition of the summer for the club, with Mason Mount also joining from Chelsea and set to wear the No. 24 jersey.
