The former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, is set to visit his home in Kisoro during the festive season, sources have told UGANDANZ. The visit, will be the first since he was arrested from his upcountry home in Kashagama, Lyantonde district in June this year.
Kayihura was later charged in the General Court Martial with two counts of failing to protect war materials and aiding the kidnap and repatriation of Rwandan nationals. According to sources in Kisoro, it is possible that residents will organise a homecoming ceremony.
However, the Kisoro district chairperson, Abel Bizimana, said such a gathering will be misunderstood. We are skeptical about making another public gathering on his behalf because his detractors use them to open cases against him.”
Another source who claimed that they met Kayihura last Sunday at his farm in Lyantonde, said:
“Kayihura is coming, but he wants to keep a low profile, so in that matter, we shall not organise a big event to welcome him. We are trying to respect his wishes.”
Bizimana added that many people in Kisoro would want to rejoice and be happy but “we don’t want to give an enemy the opportunity.”
“He is at Kashagama until he decides; but he told me any time he will come home,” he added
