Two teachers from Nakasongola Army School in Uganda have been detained by police over allegations of assaulting a Senior One student, leading to grievous bodily harm.
Both teachers teach in the Nakasongola Army Secondary School, which is a part of the Nakasongola UPDF Air Defense Cantonment in the Nakasongola District.
According to UPDF authorities, the suspects are Private Enoch Tindimwebwa and Corporal Jackson Bitaryebwa.
“We have two people detained for interrogation in connection with the alleged assault case of a student at Nakasongola Army Secondary school. The suspects are detained at Nakasongola Army Barracks,” UPDF’s Nakasongola Cantonment said in a brief statement on Thursday.
The details surrounding the assault on the senior one student at school are still sketchy, but according to army officials, those responsible will probably be disciplined if their involvement in the assault is proven.
“The intelligence department is doing its work and the truth will guide if the suspects will appear before the Unit disciplinary Court or not,” Rugumayo revealed.
The Ugandan government outlawed physical punishment, but incidents of education instructors abusing students continue to occur in numerous schools around the nation.
Dan Gasore, a third-grade student at Mutorole Primary School, purportedly died unexpectedly in March 2023 as a result of suspected physical abuse from eloped teacher Pascal Hakizimana.
