Families of Ugandan nationals reportedly trapped in the Russia-Ukraine conflict have intensified calls for government intervention and repatriation assistance.
Dozens of Ugandans, many with military backgrounds, were allegedly recruited through deceptive job schemes and forcibly conscripted into Russian military service. Families report loss of contact since January, with fears their relatives have been killed in combat.
The government has acknowledged awareness of the situation but stated capacity constraints in repatriating citizens. International organizations estimate thousands of African nationals are similarly affected.
