Nine days to the 70th Makerere University graduation ceremony and the institution is yet to publish the graduation list.
According to a number of students Ugandanz News Website spoke to, the university, unlike its age-long tradition of releasing two draft lists before the final one that guarantees one a spot in the graduation book, has this time around failed to release the list.
The first draft list enables students to check if their names are included and if not follow up and ensure that they get cleared or clear all that is required of them.
The four-day graduation ceremony is slated to start on January 14 and end on January 17, 2020.
“Now many students are not sure whether they are going to graduate or not. It is a few days to graduation and we have not seen the list. How then shall we prepare or resolve any issues that may arise within this time?” one of the students asked.
The delay also affects students from Makerere University Business School (MUBS), which is an affiliate of Makerere University.
When contacted, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, was not aware that the graduation list had not been published on the university’s website.
“The graduation list is out. Is it not there on the university website?” Nawangwe asked. He, however, referred New Vision to the academic registrar, Alfred Namoah.
However, several calls to Namoah went unanswered and even messages to his known number got no response. Efforts to talk to the public relations officials at the university were also unsuccessful.

The first colleges to graduate will be the colleges of agricultural and environmental sciences, natural sciences, education, and external studies as well as health sciences.
On January 15, students from the colleges of business and management sciences, computing and information sciences as well as veterinary medicine, animal resources and bio-security will graduate.
MUBS students are expected to graduate on January 16.
On Friday, January 17, students from the colleges of engineering, design, art, and technology and humanities and social sciences will graduate.
