More than 600 residents of Mpererwe received free medical care during a health camp organised by the Rotary Club of Mpererwe.
The outreach took place at the grounds of St. Stephen’s Church of Uganda in Mpererwe.
Residents received several health services, including HIV testing, eye check-ups, dental care, cancer screening, hepatitis B testing, sickle cell screening and blood donation services.
The organisers also distributed free medicine. Residents with vision problems received free eyeglasses.
Rotary urges residents to follow health guidance
Speaking during the event, Irene Namutebi, the President of the Rotary Club of Mpererwe, encouraged residents to follow medical advice.
She said proper guidance from health workers can help communities protect themselves from diseases, including Ebola.
“We encourage people to follow the guidance given by health workers to protect themselves from Ebola and other diseases,” Namutebi said.
Community water project planned
The event also included a visit by Rotary Governor Gerald Obai to a proposed site for a community water project.
Mpererwe Church of Uganda Primary School donated the land for the initiative.
The planned water system is expected to serve the wider community once completed.
Health facilities join outreach
Several medical institutions and organisations supported the health camp.
They included People’s Medical Hospital, St. Stephen’s Hospital Mpererwe, JWK Medical Centre, Suubi Health Services, Sarec Dental Centre and Hariss International Limited.
Local leaders praised the Rotary Club for supporting the community through health and development initiatives.
“We thank Rotary Club of Mpererwe for bringing these free medical services to our people. May God bless them for their generosity,” Kalibala Samuel said.
Rev. John Kiyingi also commended the club for its continued work to improve community welfare.
He praised the planned clean water project, saying it would help expand access to safe water for residents.
