Startling details have surfaced in the tragic murder case of Monica Nabukenya, who was killed by her lover, Raed Wated, in Kalagala Village, Kayabwe Town Council, Mpigi District.
New information reveals that Wated suspected Nabukenya of infidelity, prompting him to subject their 6-month-old baby girl to a DNA test.
On July 16, 2023, Wated reported Nabukenya missing, leading investigators to their home, where they discovered her decomposing body in a septic tank.
After being questioned, Wated confessed to the murder, driven by the negative DNA test results that revealed he was not the biological father of their child.
Relatives of the deceased disclosed that Nabukenya had openly informed Wated that he was not the baby’s biological father and had expressed her desire for a divorce.
Her sisters recounted her difficult life, characterized by Wated’s controlling behavior, preventing her from connecting with relatives and friends on social media. Despite her attempts to divorce him, Wated refused to sign the papers.
The couple had lived together for nearly a decade, and Nabukenya had recently sold her land and planned to restock her supermarket in Kayabwe Town.
She had also been helping Wated secure Ugandan citizenship until the paternity revelation.
When Wated came to pick up Nabukenya last week, her mother, Ms. Scovia Kyomugisha, was hesitant due to the numerous complaints she had received about him.
Wated had convinced her of his reformation, promising to have an official traditional ceremony (kwanjula) in August and later a wedding. Tragically, it was all a facade to mask his sinister intentions.
The police commander, Mr. Dauda Hirigi Were, confirmed that Wated, who has already confessed, will likely appear in court on Friday to face trial. The postmortem report will further aid in the legal proceedings.
The family of Monica Nabukenya mourns her untimely death, while grappling with the shocking revelations that have emerged about her troubled relationship with Raed Wated.
