A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier attached to the Special Forces Command (SFC) is facing charges of murder and aggravated robbery. The SFC is charged with protecting the President.

Private Michael Musinguzi, who has been eluding the long arm of the law for four months, was recently flashed out of his hideout in Isingiro district after a long search by security operatives. He was driven to Kampala and detained at Katwe Police Station from where he was produced before Makindye Grade One Magistrate Allan Gakyaro Mpiirwe. Charges of murder and aggravated robbery were read out to him.

Musinguzi was charged along with two civilians: Joseph Sseruwunge, a businessman in Kisenyi in downtown Kampala, and Ambrose Ahimbisibwe. The three were not allowed to take plea and were remanded to Luzira Prison. Court heard that on the night of October 9, last year, the trio, together with several others still at large, attacked John Bosco Wamala, 55 and murdered him by strangulation.

It is alleged that the men wrapped the body in Wamala’s jacket and bedsheets before locking it in the house, which also served as a warehouse. It was located near Movit Company in Nankinga Zone, Bunamwaya in Makindye Ssabagabo municipality.

They allegedly stole building materials worth over sh200m, which they loaded on a truck and transported to Sseruwunge’s shop in Kisenyi, where they sold them to unsuspecting customers. According to information obtained, Musinguzi was a friend of the deceased and lived with him in the house, where he was.
