After Pastor Aloysius Bugingo stating in his divorce petition that he and his wife were strong Christians, the wife has told the court that divorce is unchristian.
In her reply to Bugingo’s divorce petition filed before Kajjansi Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Teddy Naluswa has implored the court to dismiss the case, saying it is unchristian for them to break their vows made before God.
“Ever since he wooed me and eventually took my hand in marriage, we swore before God to love each other for better or for worse and this court is not clothed with jurisdiction to try this petition,” Naluswa states.
She filed her response through lawyers from Galisonga Advocates and Kaggwa and Kaggwa Advocates. Naluswa’s reply followed a May 9 divorce petition by Bugingo seeking divorce on grounds that the love and attraction he had for his wife had been swept away, they are incompatible and can no longer live together.
Bugingo is the proprietor of House of Prayer Ministries International (HPMI) in Makerere Kikoni, Kampala. He accused his wife of mistreatment, embarrassing him in the presence of church members, friends and their children.
According to Bugingo, Naluswa exhibited cruelty, selfishness and ungrateful attitude towards him despite his love and kind deeds towards her.
“On August 10, 2015, I presented an agreement for purchase of church land to her, but she instead threw the papers in my face in the presence of our children and branded me a mad person,” Bugingo’s divorce petition reads.
“In January 2018, she also embarrassed me in the presence of Pastor Edward Kayizzi, who was trying to medicate us. She later started sending me abusive and threatening messages on my mobile phone, prompting me to leave our marital home in Kitende, Wakiso district.”
