Former Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among can still receive selected visitors at her Nakasero residence despite tight security around the home, a Uganda Radio Network visit has established.

The findings challenge public speculation that the Bukedea Woman MP is being held in complete isolation.

URN observed that access to the residence on Mackinnon Road remains tightly controlled by security personnel. However, visitors cleared in advance are still allowed into the compound.

The visit followed days of speculation about Among’s whereabouts and health.

Several politicians, including former Kampala Central MP Mohammed Nsereko, had claimed that Among was battling health complications and had limited access to medical care.

Security Screens Visitors at Nakasero Home

During the visit, URN observed multiple layers of security at the residence.

The deployment included officers from the Special Forces Command, Counter Terrorism Police, and plain-clothed security personnel.

Security officers screened everyone seeking entry into the home.

When URN sought access, officers said only visitors cleared by Among herself or people inside the residence could be admitted.

The reporter was denied entry because there was no prior appointment. Security personnel advised the reporter to obtain authorisation before returning.

The observations suggested that access to Among is regulated rather than completely prohibited.

MPs Among Visitors Allowed In

During the same visit, security personnel allowed a Toyota Noah into the compound without delay.

Later, Amuru Woman MP Lucy Akello and another visitor were also cleared to enter after security checks.

The two arrived carrying what appeared to be gifts. They indicated that they were expected by the Bukedea Woman MP.

The findings are consistent with earlier remarks by Bukedea County MP David Beecham Okwere.

Okwere told URN that he recently attended a prayer session at Among’s residence with a Catholic priest and other leaders.

According to Okwere, family members and selected visitors have continued to see the former Speaker despite tight controls around the residence.

Health and Legal Questions Remain Unanswered

The restricted access has fuelled speculation about Among’s health and circumstances after the 2026 general elections.

Nsereko has claimed, without providing medical evidence, that Among is suffering from swollen legs caused by a blood clot and needs specialised treatment.

Acting Alliance for National Transformation National Coordinator Alice Alaso has also said Among has experienced health challenges. However, she declined to disclose details.

The government has not publicly explained the security deployment at Among’s residence.

It has also not commented on speculation about her health or legal status.

The silence follows operations in which Among’s fleet of vehicles was impounded and taken to Naguru Police Headquarters.

Among served as Speaker of Parliament from 2022 until the end of the Eleventh Parliament.

She remains the NRM’s Second National Vice Chairperson for the female league.

She has rarely appeared in public since security agencies moved against her shortly after President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in.

Her limited public presence has left unanswered questions about her health, political future, and freedom of movement.
