In a tragic turn of events, two separate incidents have rocked the Sipi region and Nabilatuk district.
A woman, Ms. Juliet Chelangat, has been apprehended for allegedly killing her husband, while in another incident, a military officer, L/CPL Ruhuriza Michael, is on the run after fatally shooting his partner, Ms. Irama Mercy.
These incidents highlight the dangers within troubled relationships, emphasizing the need for intervention before it becomes too late.
Chelangat’s Tragedy
Juliet Chelangat, a 43-year-old resident of Waror village, Tegeres sub-county, Kapchorwa District, is currently in police custody, accused of the fatal assault of her husband, Mr. Namawangala Stephen, aged 40.
The tragic chain of events began when Chelangat withdrew Shs200,000 from the Kabati Village Savings Group to cover their children’s school fees.
However, her husband allegedly stole the money for his alcohol consumption and failed to return it.
A confrontation ensued, escalating into a late-night altercation that resulted in Mr. Namawangala’s tragic death.
Ruhuriza’s Tragic Act
In a separate incident, police and UPDF are on the hunt for L/CPL Ruhuriza Michael from the 49th Battalion’s Lopetageit detachment in Nabilatuk District.
He stands accused of fatally shooting his partner, Ms. Irama Mercy, a 20-year-old woman he had been living with for the past five months.
The tragedy was triggered by the theft of Ruhuriza’s Shs150,000, which was part of a loan he had acquired from the Wazalendo SACCO.
Despite his previous complaints about the repeated theft of his money, the issue remained unresolved.
On the night of the incident, Ruhuriza retrieved his firearm from his partner and allegedly shot her dead, leaving the weapon at the scene.
