One of the leading universities in Western Uganda Bishop Stuart University has been put on the guiltone on allegations of blocking its own student from aspiring to be the next guild president of the university in this coming guild presidential elections. The candidate being barred from contesting is inclined towards people power Movement led by Uganda’s Pop artist and Legislator of Kyadondo East Mr Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu.

Solomon Atwebembire believed to be in his second year student has went ahead to accuse the administration of the university of deliberately barring him and all his campaign efforts from registering to contest for the top University spot. Atwebembeire further claimed that some of University administrators directly confronted and reprimanded due to his political Inclination.

Speaking to one of the aspirants (Name with Held) said that clearance to contest for the guild spot started two weeks ago and some of them finished payment of the designated fee. Unfortunately for Mr Solomon since the previous weekend none of his of respective signatories were allowed to sign on the form.

Atwebembeire says that his campaign team has only managed to get only one signature and that was from the priest at his home church in Bushenyi district.

Mr Solomom claims that some of prominent University staff members including The Faculty Dean, Students’ Dean, Academic Registrar, Chief Accountant, Head of Department and even the University Chaplain have all declined to sign his clearance form.

“At one point I was thrown out of the lecture room by one the lecturers, Mrs Florence Atieno, when I came dressed in red,”

Atwebembire

“This same lecturer is the head of our department and she’s supposed to sign on my form, but I have been chasing her since last week, until I was caught by the deadline on Monday.”

Atwebembire also claims that his campaign banners were pulled down by university officials. Bishop Stuart University as a matter of policy, doesn’t allow students to directly participate in national party politics at campus. But Atwebembire, who formerly belonged to the FDC, says the People Power movement is not a registered political party.

When reached to respond, BSU spokesperson Mrs Rose Rwankore accused the complainant of telling lies, adding that he probably did not meet all the requirements to be cleared for the race.

“He should be true to himself,” she said.

Rose Rwankore

“You should ask him whether he has sat all the tests and paid all the dues.”

Bishop Stuart was dragged to court by Mr Bwengye few months ago on accusation of religious discrimination through its policies and rules. It should be noted that Bishop Stuart University accepts students of different religion domination but only students inclinedt to the Aglican domination are the only ones who can contest.
