Fixed broadband provider Savanna Uganda has entered Uganda’s mobile telecommunications market with a new voice and data service aimed at existing fibre internet customers.
The move expands the company beyond Fiber-to-the-Home services into mobile connectivity. It also adds fresh competition in a sector dominated by MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda.
Savanna Uganda is initially rolling out the service in Kampala and the Greater Kampala region.
Under the new model, home and office fibre internet customers can add mobile SIM cards to their existing subscription plans at an extra fee. Customers will manage both fixed internet and mobile services under one account.
Savanna Targets Converged Connectivity
Speaking at the launch, Savanna Uganda Chief Executive Officer Alex Wanyoike said the expansion marked an important step for the company and Uganda’s digital economy.
“Today marks a transformative moment for Savanna Fibre Uganda and for the people and businesses we serve. We are proud to extend our robust fiber-driven customer model into mobile, delivering truly unlimited voice and data at an affordable incremental price,” Mr Wanyoike said.
He said linking mobile SIM cards to fibre plans would give customers a more seamless and scalable connectivity experience.
According to Mr Wanyoike, the company wants to set “a new standard for value, simplicity, and performance in Africa’s telecom landscape.”
The offer targets users who need both home or office internet and mobile access under a single billing arrangement.
Uganda Telecom Market Continues to Grow
Savanna’s entry comes as Uganda’s digital and telecommunications market continues to expand.
According to the Uganda Communications Commission market report for the first quarter of 2026, the sector had 61.6 million mobile subscriptions.
The same report recorded 2.37 billion mobile money transactions and Shs 1.6 trillion in quarterly sector revenues.
Savanna Uganda says its mobile service will help meet rising demand for affordable internet and mobile data among households, small businesses and digital entrepreneurs.
The company is positioning its unlimited packages as a response to the needs of data-heavy users in urban areas.
Rollout Starts in Greater Kampala
The immediate rollout will focus on Kampala and the Greater Kampala region before extending to other parts of Uganda.
Savanna Uganda also plans to take the same integrated connectivity model to other African markets in the long term, including South Africa.
The company says the expansion reflects its commitment to digital inclusion by using its fibre infrastructure to deliver cheaper and more reliable communication services.
