In yesterday’s hearing, the suspect in the murder case of social worker Maria Nagirinya testified against a co-defendant and wanted to be transferred to a different cell.

According to boda boda motorist Nassif Kalyango’s testimony before High Court judge Isaac Muwata in 2019, four passengers approached him asking to be taken to the Lungujja neighborhood of Kampala.

Copriam Kasolo, also known as “Arsenal,” Johnson Lubega, also known as “Rasta,” Isaac Ssenabulya, also known as “Kisunsu,” and an individual known only as “Fred” are the four people on trial at the moment.

“On the afternoon of August 28, 2019, as I waited alone at my boda boda stage for customers, one of my peers who did not have a motorcycle approached me with four passengers”

Kalyango continued, “My colleague then left, leaving it up to me to decide whether or not to take them.”

He added, “I asked the four passengers if one of them could help me with their phone so I could call a colleague to assist me.”

Kasolo gave me his phone, and I called Hassan Kiseeka, alias Masadda (now a co-accused), who promptly picked up the four and drove them to Kalerwe.

Kalyango also testified that Ssenabulya and Fred were on Kasolo’s motorcycle and Kiseeka was carrying Kasolo and Lubega.

Once in Kalerwe, he claims the men spent no more than five minutes at a dive bar before continuing on to Lungujja.

Nagirinya and her chauffeur Ronald Kitayimbwa were abducted by the suspects, who purportedly killed both of them in Mukono.

Kalyango said “yes” when asked if he knew his co-defendants, including Kasolo.

In his initial defense, Kasolo had denied having any personal knowledge of his co-defendants.

Kalyango testified in court that Kasolo had requested the boda motorist to advance ahead of them.

According to him, as they neared Lungujja, Kasolo returned to meet them, but this time he was behind the wheel of a car, flashing its lights and yelling for Ssenabulya to get in.

Kalyango’s attorney, Mr. Julius Sserwambala, asked Justice Muwata to transfer his client to a different remand facility after he testified incriminatingly against his co-defendant.
