The Uganda Police force has defended its brutal force exercised during the arrest of former presidential Candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye.

Besigye together with other Forum for Democratic Change officials were arrested on their way to Kiira Municipality where they had organized delegates meeting ahead of the looming 2021 general elections.

According to police, they don’t apologize for arresting Dr. Kiiza Besigye since he defied lawful orders.

He was last evening taken into custody with his driver Fred Kato and a one Mwesigye Benson at Naggalama police station in Mukono.

Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] legislators Francis Mwijukye and Roland Mugume secured his release.

“I was released from Naggalama Police cells at about 10pm last night. By God’s Grace, I am generally fine. Am grateful for the many msgs of concern &prayers,” Besigye said.

He added: “Gross abuse of Human Rights (by NRM/M7 junta) with impunity has gone on for too long. We must all unite in saying: ENOUGH!”

Besigye was charged with inciting violence and holding an illegal assembly before releasing him from custody.
