Tensions flared in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District, as police intercepted National Unity Platform (NUP) Members of Parliament (MPs) and their supporters attempting to clean markets and highways.

The initiative, organized under the banner of ‘bulungi bwansi’, aimed to address sanitation issues in the area.

However, the efforts were met with resistance from the Njeru District Police Commander (DPC), Ms Edith Basalirwa, who cautioned against what she deemed as incitement.

Despite the group’s intentions to assist in garbage collection, they were redirected from Kisoga to Bukaya under police escort.

Ms Farida Nabatanzi, a Buikwe NUP mobilizer, expressed disappointment, citing the government’s failure to address sanitation concerns.

She highlighted the willingness of supporters to fund the initiative and expand it to other districts.

Legislator Mr Patrick Nsanja and NUP coordinator Mr Moses Lukanga emphasized the importance of community-driven initiatives to improve living conditions.

Plans to address potholes along the Jinja-Kampala highway were also discussed, with concerns raised about road safety.
