MASAKA: Lwengo police are investigating a complex case where two unidentified men are said to have raped a suspected night dancer.
The incident occurred at around 10pm on Saturday night at Bitooke Bisalire village in Kalagala parish in Malongo Sub-county.
The unidentified men reportedly found 42-year-old Aisha Nalwanga, a resident of Kyazanga dancing naked in a graveyard in Bitooke Bisalire village.
The suspects apprehended her for alleged trespass and later took turns to rape her prompting her to raise an alarm, which attracted residents.
The suspects fled from the scene during the confusion. Angry residents later started beating up Nalwanga accusing her of attempting to exhume a body from one of the graves.
They claimed that unidentified people exhumed two bodies from the grave last month and they have never been traced.
They decided to march Nalwanga around the village naked prompting some residents to alert Katovu Police post, which swung into action and rescued her from the mob.
However, the story changed when Nalwanga told the officers that she had been raped by two unidentified
men.
The officers recorded her statement and transferred the suspect to Katovu police station for safety.
Lauben Tumuslime, the Officer in Charge of Katovu Police station, says investigations are ongoing.
Police visited Bitooke Bisalire to establish the facts on ground but found all the graves intact.
They are now looking for the LCI Chairperson of the village who led the mob action against the female suspect.
In her statement, Nalwanga claims that she lost the way to her grandmother’s home in Bitooke Bisalire, a claim the residents dismissed.
Her brother, Sadik Kizito and sister, Sumayiya Nasuuna, say the suspect has a mental disorder.
According to Kizito, the suspect disappeared from home in the night and they tried searching for her in vain.
The family also reported the disappearance of the suspect to local authorities in Kyazanga prior until when she was discovered by the mob.
