Students Recovering After Suspected Food Poisoning Incident at Nakanyonyi SS

The head teacher of Nakanyonyi Senior Secondary School, Mr. Amos Balongo, expressed relief to parents as students who were rushed to the hospital over suspected food poisoning are steadily recovering.

The incident occurred Thursday evening when about 200 students were admitted to hospitals in Naggalama, Mukono, and Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for treatment following a poison scare.

According to Mr. Balongo, there have been no reported deaths, and some of the victims are expected to be discharged back to school after receiving medical care.

The students experienced symptoms such as stomachache, diarrhea, and unconsciousness after consuming their supper on Wednesday at 7 pm.

The cause of the illness is yet to be conclusively determined.

Mr. Mike Ssegawa, the Mukono Deputy RDC, stated that investigations are ongoing to establish whether the food eaten by the students was laced with poison or if the food itself was contaminated.

To aid the investigation, samples of the food have been sent to the government analytical laboratory in Kampala for testing.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire, assured that the situation at Nakanyonyi Senior Secondary School is closely monitored, and police are actively investigating the cause of the severe stomach pains among the students.
