Sheema Woman Member of Parliament Jacklet Atuhaire has been dragged to the Chief Magistrates’ Court at Kajjansi in Wakiso district over failure to clear a balance of her child’s tuition fees amounting to sh8.5m.
Through their lawyers, Galaxy International School says Atuhaire defaulted on her payment obligations to the school.
The school is, therefore, seeking orders directing the MP to pay the said amount. Court documents indicate that during the 2014/2015 academic year, the MP enrolled her child at the school.
However, according to the school’s terms and conditions of the admission, Atuhaire had a duty to remit tuition and additional administrative fees for each term when her child was a pupil.
“As a result of the defendant’s actions, her debt was passed on to the plaintiff’s lawyers who made a formal demand for outstanding tuition fees of over sh8.5m, but she has chosen not to comply and pay the monies,” reads the court documents.
The Kajjansi Magistrates’ Court has summoned the MP to file her defense within 15 days from the date of service of summons on her.
“Should you fail to file a defense on or before the suit is set for hearing, judgment may be given in your absence,” the magistrate warned.
Efforts to get a comment from Atuhaire were unsuccessful because her known phone numbers were unavailable.
