Despite claims that Covid-19 is to blame for the recent spike in flu and cough cases, the Health Ministry has stated that they are still finalizing their assessment.

Several people’s loved ones have been bedridden for days or have lost their voices due to a severe cough, illness, or fever, according to social media posts and conversations with this magazine.

Children are not responding to drugs that were once effective against these three illnesses, leading to hospitalization and the need for oxygen therapy for some.

Increased reports of these respiratory disorders in urban and rural areas coincide with reports that two patients at Mulago National Referral Hospital have recently appeared with severe cases of Covid sickness.

Mr Philemon Setyabule, a parent in Kampala, who spoke to Daily Monitor claimed that his child’s condition worsened after several episodes of resilient cough and flu.

“My son has been ill recently. We thought he would be improving from cough and flu, but after a month of treatment [from a clinic], we resolved to take him to the hospital [because he was not improving],” he said.

Mr Setyabule added: “We underestimated his illness thinking it [was] ordinary flu and cough. When we brought him to the hospital, he was admitted.”

Yesterday, Kampala physician Dr. Daniel Tumwine told this news website that respiratory complaints in youngsters have grown significantly.

However, other parents with comparable symptoms test Covid-positive.

The National Drug Authority (NDA) approved the herbal medication Covidex as a supporting treatment for Covid-19, and retailers report an increase in sales. Actual sales data were not available right away.

According to Dr. Christine Sekaggya, a clinician at Mulago National Referral Hospital, the facility is still seeing patients suffering from severe cases of the Covid-19 virus.
