Gen Kale Kayihura Vows to Stay Away from Politics, Focus on Farming

Gen Kayihura expressed his disinterest in elective politics despite rumors that he might contest for the Bufumbira East parliamentary seat in Kisoro District.

He stressed his reservations about elective politics and his strong desire to engage in farming during his retirement.

His retirement from the army closely followed his acquittal of charges related to illegal repatriation of Rwandan refugees and the failure to protect war materials in a court martial.

During the homecoming event, Gen Kayihura firmly stated that the charges against him were unfounded.

He credited President Museveni for diligently investigating the allegations, which revealed the truth that he had no case to answer. Gen Kayihura clarified that he wasn’t pardoned but simply had no case against him.

Gen Kayihura also expressed gratitude for the support he received from various individuals during his legal trials, including local leaders and his legal team.

He acknowledged the importance of his family’s unwavering support during the challenging times.

Concluding his address, Gen Kayihura emphasized his pride in being a retired military officer and his commitment to remain so until his passing.

Religious leaders led ecumenical prayers at the event, highlighting the importance of unity and support in the community.
