Education Minister Muyingo’s School caught red-handed Cheating UNEB Exams

John Chrysostom Muyingo

Uganda’s State Minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo has been put in a hot spot after his school was implicated in Examination Malpractice.

This follows exposure of Seeta Junior School Mbalala campus as the Hive for cheating Exams in recently conclude PLE National Exams 2019.

Richard Okello an English Teacher exposed the school, according to him Minister Muyingo used his position to get Exams for the Primary Seven pupils.

In the recently concluded Primary Leaving Exams 2019, Mr. Okello narrates that he was working under a team led by Commissioner CID administration Richard Mwesigye as Examination scout.

Sources indicate that during Examination Period Two teachers of Seeta Junior school i.e Mr. Ekaju and Mr. Odeke. Two Mobile phones which were being used to circulate exams to other schools were also confiscated by the team according to Mr. Okello’s report

The report further implicates prominent schools including Global Junior School, Mukono Junior School, and Shiloh Junior School Jinja among other schools

Narrating his ordeal, Mr. Okello said, when the Minister Muyingo heard that his teachers had been arrested on charges of examination malpractice, he reportedly pushed for their release on police bond by Jinja road police station.

Minister Muyingo has been accused by Okello for using his power and position to secure release for his teachers and in turn, had Mr. Okello implicated and charges brought against him.

Through his lawyers, Mr. Okello has petitioned to Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), calling for the supervision of all the charges brought against him.

“On 6th November 2019, Okello was reportedly arrested by the bodyguard of Mr. Muyingo from Seeta Junior School-Mbalala Campus staff quarters and has been detained and transferred to various police stations of Mukono central police station, Katwe police station and Jinja road police station.” reads in part of the petition.

“Our client strongly believes that he is unfairly and illegally detained because he exposed examination malpractice in Seeta junior school. He believes that the trumped-up charges brought against him are a mere cover-up for the heinous crime of cheating national exams for which Seeta junior school teachers should be held culpable,” the lawyers wrote

They wondered why police are not focusing on the released teachers instead of manufacturing cases against him after helping in the exposure of vice that is eating up the sector.

“My lord we have raised our client’s concerns with you being the constitutionally mandated office to supervise all criminal charges in contrary so that you intervene to stop this capricious and unlawful cover-up of a serious crime of examination malpractice”
