A 25-year-old man has been arrested by Busoga East police in Namutumba District, Uganda, on suspicion of being involved in the death of his teenage girlfriend, Ruth Ahereza.

Suspect and Victim Relationship

The suspect, a resident of Kakola cell in Ivukula town council, is believed to have been involved in Ahereza’s death on October 6, 2023.

It is reported that the suspect had been living with Ahereza since January 2023, but their relationship was characterized by continuous misunderstandings. Ahereza had left the suspect’s house in August 2023.

Friend’s Account

An anonymous friend of Ahereza stated that she had been staying with Ahereza for the past month after a fallout with her boyfriend.

The suspect had repeatedly tried to convince her to return to his house, but she refused, citing difficult living conditions.

On October 5, 2023, the suspect claimed to have secured a job for Ahereza in Iganga District and lured her into accompanying him for the job offer.

However, Ahereza’s lifeless body was found locked in the suspect’s bedroom on the evening of October 6.

His failure to report the incident raised suspicion about his involvement.

Police Investigation and Autopsy Findings

Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and mentioned that key evidence links the suspect to Ahereza’s death.

The autopsy report revealed signs of strangulation and bruises on Ahereza’s neck.

Investigations are ongoing, with detectives focusing on reexamining the crime scene and gathering statements from residents to expedite the prosecution process.

This case underscores the importance of thorough investigations to ensure justice is served in cases of suspected violence and crime.
