Two-year-old baby strangled on eve of his birthday party

Sarah Kan’s child who was found dead in a septic tank

A mother is grieving over the suspected murder of her two-year-old child on New Year’s eve. The murder came as Sarah Kan, the mother of the child was in final preparations for the boy’s birthday party.

“Kabali made two years on December 26, however, we decided to hold a party for him on January 1 when the relatives and friends would be back from the village,” the child’s mother told Ugandanz yesterday.

Sarah Kan said on Monday evening, she went to the venue for her baby’s party near their home. She says she left the child with relatives at her home in Bunamwaya, Makindye watching a movie in the sitting room.

On returning home after about 15 minutes, Kan noticed that her only child was missing. After checking and failing to trace the boy, she decided to report to Kikumbi Police post in Bunamwaya.

“While I was at the police station, people at home called me to go back home. On reaching home, I was informed that my child had been found dead in the neighbor’s open septic tank,” a teary Kan said.

According to Kan, each house in the estate is sorrounded by a separate fence and, therefore, it is unlikely that the child wandered and fell into the septic tank. While addressing the media yesterday, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire said residents suspected the boy drowned.

However, the post-mortem report indicated the boy was strangled before the body was dumped in the septic tank. Police investigations into the matter are on going

Owoyesigire said there was also the suspected murder of Denis Tumwesigye Zinsanze, 36, a casual worker at Kisubi Seminary in Wakiso district. Tumwesigye was allegedly murdered by unknown assailants who dumped his body along Nabinonya Beach road off Entebbe Road.

Another person suspected to have been murdered is John Mike Owori 32, a resident of Kitala in Katabi town council. Owori was allegedly stabbed by his wife Lillian Asasira who reportedly suspected him of having an affair with their house help.

Assasira is currently in Police custody at Entebbe Police Station on charges of murder.
