Two Detained in Kampala Salon for Alleged Sodomy

Police in Kampala North Metropolitan have apprehended two adult males, aged 23, who were allegedly caught in the act of engaging in unnatural sexual activity within a salon located in Kisingiri Cell, Namirembe, Bakuli Parish, Rubaga Division, Kampala.

The suspects were arrested last Friday during an incident witnessed by a student seeking shelter from heavy rainfall.

The student, while on the salon’s veranda, heard distressing sounds emanating from inside.

Swiftly, the student recorded the alleged incident on their phone and alerted security guards at the nearby Total fuel station in Mengo, who in turn contacted the Bakuli police.

The two individuals were subsequently taken into custody.

Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, revealed these details during a press conference on Monday.

He emphasized that the suspects remain in police custody, facing charges related to unnatural offenses, which are considered illegal in the country.

Enanga highlighted that engaging in acts contrary to the natural order, such as sodomy, is punishable under Ugandan law.

This incident is part of a broader effort by the police to enforce these legal provisions, particularly following the Anti-Homosexuality Act passed in May 2023.

It has come to light that at least 12 suspects have been arrested and presented in court between June and October 2023, charged with either engaging in or promoting behaviors deemed as homosexuality.

Enanga urged the public to report any suspicious activities in their communities to local authorities and the police to aid in the apprehension of those involved in such practices.

The Anti-Homosexuality Act, enacted by the Ugandan government in May, prescribes severe penalties, including the possibility of a death penalty, for aggravated homosexuality, contingent on the circumstances surrounding the offense.
