Suzan Keitesi, 24, was renting and living in an apartment that was destroyed by fire on Thursday at around 5:30 p.m. According to Luke Owoyesigyire, a spokesman for the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police fire broke out in Jinja Kawempe Zone A in Nabweru, Kawempe division.
“It is reported that Keitesi received two visitors only identified as Patricia Arinda , 24 her cousin, and Kajumba, 27 her friend. She told the police that the visitors came to her place in the morning and the fire broke out later that evening while they were still in the house,”Owoyesigyire said.
Police claim that even though Keitesi owned a gas cooker, by the time the local fire crew arrived to extinguish the fire, it was still there and unharmed.
The two victims were delivered to Mulago City Mortuary, where a postmortem was performed as well as witness statements were recorded.
“Our officers later visited Kaitesi Susan in the clinic where she had been rushed for first aid and she was later referred to Kawempe Hospital for further management and later discharged .”
Keitesi has since been arrested, according to Owoyesigyire, who also claimed that the incident is now being treated as murder and that the scene has been set aside for additional investigation by representatives of the National Building Review Board, UMEME, and other stakeholders in order to ascertain the precise cause of the fire.
It has been claimed by a number of social media commenters who appeared to know the deceased that the pair was invited to a birthday party by Keitesi only for them to set the house on fire.
“This beautiful Patricia girl was invited to a birthday party and when she reached, the host locked her in the house and set it on fire,” one of the members of the public posted on social media.
The same accusations were made by many other people who blamed Kaitesi for planning the horrific murder.
While others suggested other factors, some asserted that the two fell out over a guy, albeit none of these claims have been proven.
Police investigations will aid in putting the matter to rest.
