Kigali-based female musical duo Charly na Nina who became famous for their hit song “The Zahabu” (Gold) announced on Friday that their concert in Kampala, Uganda in May will be postponed over security fears.
They noted out the increasing disappearance and illegal detentions of Rwandan by Ugandan security organs and the increased deterioration of Uganda-Rwanda relations.
The Rwandan female musicians were scheduled to perform along with Ugandan comedian Alex Muhangi another Kenyan artists Eric Omondi.
The announcement comes after Rwandan citizens were advised to cancel their planned trips to neighboring Uganda due to perceived ill treatment by Ugandan security operatives.
Ongoing tensions between the two countries are escalating at a worrying rate, with officials from both sides uttering strong statements.
The latest accusation is the most problematic, as Rwanda’s Foreign minister, Richard Sezibera, accused Uganda of supporting rebel groups such as the Rwanda National Congress (RNC) and the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).
Ugandan government denied all allegations and refused to reply to Kigali through media.
