Rape Case Involving a 23-Year-Old Maid at Police Officer’s House Transferred for Better Management

A distressing case of rape involving a 23-year-old maid has been transferred to the Kampala Metropolitan Police South region at Katwe for better management and investigation.

The incident occurred at a house owned by a senior police officer, Superintendent of Police Gilbert Bwana Arinaitwe, in Nalumunye Village, Rubaga Division, Kampala City.

The maid reported that she was raped at gunpoint on the night of July 25, and then subjected to seven more incidents of rape by her assailant, who also threatened her not to report the matter.

Throughout this traumatic experience, she claimed to have been confined to the house with limited access to food, and her salary was withheld.

After finding a way to report the ordeal to a friend, the information was eventually passed on to the local council defense secretary, who then took her to the police station to file a rape complaint.

The case was initially registered at Nateete Police Division under reference number 688/2023. However, investigations progressed slowly at both Nalumunye Police Station and Nateete Police Division.

Due to the lack of progress, the case file was transferred to Kampala Metropolitan Police South region, as senior officers believe it is better equipped to handle the investigation, thanks to its senior detectives.

As of now, no suspect has been arrested or named in connection with the case.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango declined to comment on the case, stating that he was yet to be briefed on its current status.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Bwana, the owner of the house where the rape allegedly occurred, claimed not to be aware of the incident.

However, he asserted his cooperation with the police investigation and provided a statement to aid their efforts.

The victim is currently being protected at a shelter owned by a non-governmental organization (NGO) while the investigation continues.

The case has drawn attention due to its sensitive nature and involvement of a senior police officer’s property.
