Police Warn NUP Supporters Against Unlawful Gatherings as Bobi Wine’s Return Approaches

In anticipation of his return, Bobi Wine confirmed the date of his arrival on October 5th at 10 AM through a social media post. The situation remains closely monitored, with both supporters and authorities preparing for the homecoming event.

The Uganda Police Force has issued a caution to supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, advising against participating in any unlawful assemblies and processions in anticipation of the return of their leader, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.

Bobi Wine is set to return to Uganda on Thursday after completing international mobilization tours in Canada and South Africa.

Anticipation Builds for Bobi Wine’s Return

NUP leaders, along with several party MPs representing Kampala Metropolitan constituencies, have coordinated efforts to gather people from across the country to welcome Bobi Wine upon his return at Entebbe International Airport and along the route leading to his residence in Magere, Wakiso.

Peaceful Welcome Fete Planned

The welcoming event is described as a “welcome back-fete” meant to celebrate the successful mobilization tours conducted by Mr. Kyagulanyi in Uganda and abroad over the past month.

Party members emphasize that this gathering should be viewed as a non-political, welcoming celebration.

Call for Calm and Respect

MP David Sserukenya and MP Aloysius Mukasa, among others, have urged supporters to remain calm and respectful during the event.

They also emphasized the importance of following traffic rules and adhering to security guidelines provided by the police to ensure the peaceful flow of the event.

Police Preparedness for the Event

Although the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Area, Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire, initially stated he was not aware of the event, he emphasized that any unlawful processions would be addressed in accordance with the law.

The police are expected to release an official statement on the matter.

Government’s Perspective on Bobi Wine’s Return

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, assured that the government has no intention of interfering with Bobi Wine’s return.

He emphasized that Bobi Wine’s return should not be a cause for alarm, as he is like any other Ugandan citizen.

He encouraged Bobi Wine’s supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid disrupting businesses.

The rumors of the government planning to switch off the internet during Bobi Wine’s return were deemed unfounded.

In anticipation of his return, Bobi Wine confirmed the date of his arrival on October 5th at 10 AM through a social media post.

The situation remains closely monitored, with both supporters and authorities preparing for the homecoming event.
