Parliament will recognize Miss World Africa Quiin Abenakyo for being crowned Miss World Africa in the 68th Miss World contest held in Sanya, China last year.
Yesterday, the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, invited Abenakyo and her parents for a courtesy visit to Parliament.
“We shall set a date to recognize Abenakyo for representing Uganda internationally,” Kadaga said,
pledging that Parliament will also offer financial support to Abenakyo’s local activities in the fight against teenage pregnancies.
Kadaga said she was touched by Abenakyo’s presentation. Abenakyo was accompanied by her parents, Charles and Alice Sembera, her aunt Grace Abenakyo and her promoter Kevin Zziwa and Janet Nalugwa.
“Together with the Miss Uganda Foundation, we have a Keep A Girl-Child in School programme, which encourages girls to go back to school and provides them with the resources and skills to do so,”
Abenakyo told Kadaga. The 2016 Uganda Demographic and Health Survey indicates that 25% of adolescent girls and young women aged between 15 and 19 years are pregnant or mothers.
