The National Unity Platform (NUP) party fulfilled its commitment to the Rwenzururu Kingdom’s highly-anticipated homecoming event for King Charles Wesley Mumbere by donating Shs10 million.

This pledge was originally made by NUP principal Robert Kyagulanyi on August 30 during his national mobilization tour in Kasese.

Local leaders in Kasese had requested support for the event during Mr. Kyagulanyi’s visit, prompting his promise to contribute to the cause.

On Sunday, NUP’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, handed over the Shs犀利士 10 million to the Rwenzururu Kingdom secretariat, which is currently operating from Shilloh Hotel in Kasese town due to the destruction of the palace in a UPDF raid on November 26, 2016.

Mr. Rubongoya reiterated NUP’s dedication to cultural diversity and fulfilling promises to the community, emphasizing the party’s support for the people of Rwenzururu.

He also emphasized the need for justice for the lives lost during the palace raid, which resulted in over 150 casualties.

Gloria Masika, representing the Rwenzururu Kingdom secretariat, expressed gratitude for NUP’s donation and appealed to other institutions, including DP, NRM, and FDC, to also support the cause.

She stressed the importance of unity as Banyarwenzururu before political affiliations.

Rwenzururu Kingdom Prime Minister Joseph Kule Muranga highlighted the fundraising challenges they face, despite running the campaign for two months.

They are aiming to raise Shs9 billion to acquire Springs International Hotel as a new palace, finance the coronation anniversary scheduled for October 19, and facilitate the king’s return.

King Mumbere had been separated from his kingdom since November 27, 2016, after his arrest following a raid on his Buhikira Royal Palace.

The event, led by Brig Peter Elwelu, resulted in numerous casualties and charges against Mumbere, including murder, arson, treason, and terrorism.

With his return set for October 4, the Rwenzururu Kingdom is making efforts to ensure a memorable and successful homecoming for the king.
