Irene Nakazibwe, a sister to Ronald Ssebulime, who was gunned down on Sunday for trailing state minister for information and communications technology Idah Nantaba Eriosi, has said her brother was going to visit his daughters.

Nakazibwe says she agreed with Ssebulime on Saturday that they visit his two daughters at St Andrew’s Secondary School Kabimbiri along Kayunga Road on school visitation day on Sunday. Nakazibwe, the deputy headteacher of Kasangati Secondary School, says she set off for the school with a female friend after Ssebulime told her he would ride his bike to Kayunga.

“I started calling him after waiting for long at school, but he was not picking his calls. One of the girls, who was performing in the school’s music, dance and drama, wanted him to see her on stage,” she said.

Nakazibwe said the last time Ssebulime picked his calls, he told her he was on his way and asked her not to call again since he was riding.

“At about 6:00pm, I left the school. I bought a Biology text book for the elder daughter to thank her for performing well during the music competitions. I asked them to continue waiting for their father since he had assured me he was on his way,” she said.

However, while in a taxi around Gayaza trading centre, Nakazibwe said she received a phone call from a fellow teacher informing her that Ssebulime had been killed.

“I could not believe what I was told. I wailed so hard that passengers asked the driver to throw me out of the taxi. We hired a bodaboda motorcycle up to Bulenga, where I informed my other relatives about the death,” she stated.

Nakazibwe described her brother as a simple person, whom she did not suspect of being involved in crime.

“It could have been mistaken identity, I know my brother and I believe he could not get involved in criminal acts,” she said.
