Security has arrested a woman who was working as Maria Nagirinya’s housemaid.
A security source said that they arrested the maid (names withheld) after finding out that her number had been used to communicate with the suspected killers.
Security wants to ascertain the relationship between the maid and the suspected killers. By the time of the murder, the woman had ceased working for Nagirinya.
The security operatives suspect that the killers could have first befriended Nagirinya’s maid in order to access information concerning her.
Nagirinya, 28, was murdered together with her on-call driver, Ronald Kitayimbwa, a day after they were kidnapped from her home gate in Lungujja, a city suburb in Rubaga municipality.
The investigating team also wants to establish the reasons Nagirinya sacked the maid. After sacking her, Nagirinya reportedly opted to stay with her close relatives.
In a related development, the Police are hunting for other three key suspects in connection with the murder of Nagirinya and Kitayimbwa.
Without revealing the identities of the suspects, the Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said preliminary investigations show that the three were part of the plan to murder the social worker.
While addressing the Police’s weekly press briefing in Kampala yesterday, Enanga said one of the three suspects, a bodaboda rider, had knowledge of what was to take place but abandoned the deal.
“We are hunting for the three other remaining suspects. We have been able to get their identities. The other two had a very big role in the entire plot,” he said.
“One of them is wanted for concealing information which was crucial that he would have shared with the Police. He is also on the run,” he said.
Enanga said they currently have four suspects in custody in relation to the murder case. The four are Kopriano Kasolo aka Arsenal (who headed the plot), Johnson Lubega Rasta aka Eto, Hassan Kiseka aka Masada and Nasif Kalyango aka Muwonge.
“We had seven suspects but after investigations, we released the three because they had no links to the murder,” he added.
He said the Police also managed to get extrajudicial statements from four suspects.
“They made their admissions before the magistrates and we were also able to reconstruct the scenes. They gave us the timeline of events, how everything was planned with the two bodabodas, and how they kidnapped the two victims and right away drove to Nakajunge in Mukono, where the two were subsequently murdered,” Enanga added.
He noted that currently, the Police haven’t got a clear motive and the real person behind the murder.
