Muntu roots for alliance with DP, Bobi Wine

Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has said his party, Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), is looking at a coalition with the Democratic Party and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine-led ‘people power’ ahead of the 2021 general elections.

JEEMA, Muntu added, is the other party he has talked to for a possible coalition as the jostle for political bases heats up across the country.

“As an alliance, we left FDC. We have deliberately kept on briefing Bobi Wine of ‘people power’, the Democratic Party (DP) and JEEMA on every step we make. We are looking towards coalition building,” Muntu said on Tuesday during a press conference at his party’s headquarters in Bukoto, Kampala.

After almost six months since he parted ways with the country’s largest opposition party, FDC, Muntu said his newly formed party will be officially launched on May 22 at Kampala Serena Hotel.

Muntu also apologized to Ugandans for the delayed launch, saying the lengthy registration process by the Electoral Commission bogged down his earlier plans to launch the party before Christmas last year.

“We had promised to launch the alliance before Christmas. Unfortunately, the process of registration delayed. We would like to apologize,” he said.
