A prominent businessman dealing in land and gold was found dead at his home in the city suburb of Bunga- Kawuku.

Ahmed Kahuma, 33, was a father of two boys and the proprietor of AHH Industrial Holdings, which deals in minerals, especially gold. Police and relatives said he was strangled and his body left in his storeyed house.

His body was found by his housemaid, just before 8:00 am yesterday when he did not respond to her greeting. His half-brother, Mansour Mbabazi, said his body had no visible injuries.

Mbabazi suspects that the people who were living with Kahuma, including the watchman, could have killed him. Kahuma and Mbabazi shared a mother who passed away in August.

“Kahuma lived a secretive life. He was a hustler. The people he housed took advantage of his illnesses. He was helpless,” Mbabazi said.

Kahuma’s other brother, only identified as Juma, said he suffered from acute ulcers and tuberculosis that forced him to stay indoors most of the time. He reportedly hired a private nurse and a massage specialist recently, to take care of him at home.

He reportedly also had two friends who kept him company and an askari who took care of Mourners gathering at the home of Kahuma who died last night, in Kawuku, a city suburb.

Edith Kanyunyuzi, the mother of one of Kahuma’s sons, said: “He was a stylish man who wore designer clothes and expensive jewelry. Most of his friends admired him.”

She, however, added that Kahuma was “a shrewd man who managed his businesses single-handedly”.

One of Kahuma’s neighbors who spoke on the condition of anonymity said at around 11:00 pm, he heard the gate at the residence of Kahuma open and a car drove out.

“He never drove out of his house at night. In the morning, his maid notified us about his death and the car that left last night was nowhere to be seen,” he said.

The neighbor described Kahuma as a respectful man. He said he had stayed in the area for only two years.

Police investigations

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, homicide department boss, Johnson Monday Agaba, said the Police was notified of Kahuma’s death by Charles Okoth, the Ssendaula zone chairperson.

“It is suspected that he was killed by two men, only identified as Edgar and Mark, who have been his caretakers. It is also alleged that the duo took off with some of Kahuma’s valuables, including a vehicle (Mercedes Benz), three mobile phones, watches, chains, rings and about 60 pairs of shoes,” he said.

Agaba said Kahuma’s car was later found abandoned on Salaama Road in Makindye division, Kampala and that one of the phones had tracked to a second-hand phone shop in Kampala
