President Yoweri Museveni yesterday visited Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga who was on Thursday rushed to Nakasero Hospital, in critical condition.
President Museveni’s press secretary, Lindah Nabusayi confirmed the visit, but said it was private and could not give details. Although the news of Kadaga’s health had been kept under wraps, sources said Kadaga was rushed to Nakasero Hospital on Thursday night, after she reportedly developed diffi culties in breathing.
This was a day after she returned from abroad, where she had a series of meetings including one in New York, where she attended the 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations headquarters. Sources at Nakasero Hospital said Kadaga was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), as soon as she arrived, because of her condition. By press time, the 62-year-old Kadaga was still in ICU.
The source, however, said Kadaga was in “better condition than when she had come in”. “Is that really news? People get sick. Okay yes she got some health challenges on her return from the US, but she will get better,” a close friend of Kadaga told our blog.
Another highly placed source confirmed that Kadaga was not well, but said she was improving. Although some sources indicated that plans were underway to airlift her out of the country for further management, the source at Parliament said: “I don’t know whether she would be fit for travel.”
The press secretary to the Speaker, Sam Obbo, in a statement, said Kadaga is being managed by doctors at Nakasero Hospital over fatigue-related illness.

Security at Nakasero Hospital remained tight and visitors were subjected to thorough checks. Journalists were not allowed near the hospital. When the hospital’s communications manager, Julius Mugisha, was contacted, he declined to comment
“I am not in office. I am actually hearing it from you, but let me confirm,” Mugisha said.
