Justice Stella Arach Amoko to be Honored in Special Parliamentary Sitting

Justice Amoko

In a special sitting scheduled for today, the body of the late Supreme Court Judge, Justice Stella Arach Amoko, will be honored in the parliament.

The announcement was made via Parliament’s official Twitter account on June 20, stating that the House would adjourn to hold the #SpecialSitting at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Justice Stella Arach Amoko passed away on June 17 after a brief illness. The legal community has praised her remarkable character and the high-quality work she contributed during her career, which propelled her through the ranks of the Judiciary.

She reached the esteemed position of Supreme Court Judge in 2012 and held that position until her unfortunate demise over the weekend.

Starting her journey in the judicial service as a High Court judge in 1997, Justice Amoko earned promotion to the Court of Appeal in 2010. Yesterday, Parliament commenced its plenary session by observing a moment of silence to honor both Justice Amoko and the students from Lhubiriha Secondary School, who were tragically killed on June 17, allegedly by suspected Allied Defense Force (ADF) rebels.

This afternoon, Speaker of Parliament, Ms. Anita Among, will receive the body of Lady Justice Amoko shortly before the commencement of the special sitting. The session aims to pay tribute to her distinguished service and legacy.
