A 40-year-old Indian man was arrested by police in Wandegeya, Kampala, on suspicion of trying to murder a gas station manager with a knife.
According to reports, the suspect works for HJ Oils Uganda Limited and is a resident of Lugogo Bypass in Nakawa Division.
He is accused of assaulting Michael Ssebowa, manager of the Total gas station in Kampala’s Makerere Kikoni, Kawempe Division.
“It is alleged that the Indian national allegedly strangled and cut Ssebowa at Total petrol station in Makerere Kikoni. Ssebowa sustained a deep cut on the left side of his neck and is receiving treatment at Hammar Medical Services in Makerere Kavule. He (suspect) has been detained pending further investigations,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
ASP Owoyesgyire stated that the suspect claimed in his statement that he attacked Ssebowa because of “suspicions of witchcraft,” despite the fact that the two had apparently previously had a tense relationship.
“A knife was recovered at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing,” the police publicist said without divulging further details.
