I am not a mole all I want is Museveni to go, says Chameleone

Singer Joseph Mayanja, commonly known as Jose Chameleone, has dismissed reports that he is a mole working in the interest of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Mayanja, who is also the Democratic Party (DP) national mobilizer, said the allegations are being made by people who are incapable of analyzing issues and are aiming at dividing the Opposition.

“I have appreciated how President Museveni and his NRM government have failed us in every aspect of life. Therefore, I am sure that joining the struggle to rid my country of misrule is the best decision in my life,” Mayanja said.

Mayanja made the remarks during the launch of the DP national mobilization and recruitment exercise at the party’s headquarters in Kampala yesterday. Recently, Mayanja officially joined DP and declared his intention to contest for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat come 2021.

Mayanja said since he joined DP, several politicians have had mixed feelings about him, with many saying he was an NRM mole.

The musician has previously been linked to NRM but has always insisted that it was a business relationship. “I went to NRM because of my popularity. I was hired to perform, but not as a member of the NRM,” Mayanja said.

He said the allegations that he joined politics to fight Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) is aimed at destabilizing the opposition. “A lot of people are trying to disregard my potential, forgetting that I have earned Uganda respect and recognition globally,” he said.

Whereas Mayanja is limited to mobilizing within Uganda, he promised to ask the party leadership to expand his role to the diaspora. “Let us make DP not only a medium for mobilizing Ugandans for the change we need but also a training camp for future leaders,” he said
