The High Court has sentenced a 50-yearold man to 10 years in prison for defiling his eight-year-old daughter. According to prosecution, Karim Mutasa, from Mayuge district, committed the offence between January and March 2017.
It was established that Mutasa would habitually share the same bed with his daughter and defile her every night. Prosecution told court that Mutasa, who separated from his wife, is also a father of two other children, who would sleep in a separate bedroom.
“One night after defiling the girl, she sneaked out of her father’s bedroom, pretending to go for a short call, but instead ran for help at the neighbour’s home,” prosecution said.
Moses Waako, an elder in the area, said the girl told him about her father’s abuse and he took her to Mayuge Police station, where they reported the matter. On arrest, Mutasa was subjected to an HIV test and was found to be positive. Prosecution told court that after a plea bargain with Mutasa’s lawyers, they agreed that he serves 10 years since he did not waste court’s time.
