Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bright Amutuhaire ran out of luck during his third attempt, when he tried to rob Tom Kisubika, a businessman dealing in fish maws at Kasenyi landing site in Wakiso district.
The Police officer, who is attached to Kajjansi Police Station, was arrested on Sunday by officers attached to Entebbe Police Station, after a tip-off by the businessman. Kisubika, who was driving a Toyota Mark II from Kasenyi landing site at about 10:00 pm, was allegedly blocked by Amutuhaire, who was behind the wheel of a Toyota Altezza UBD 328J.
‘‘This was the third time Amutuhaire and his colleagues had tried to rob me,’’ he said.
Kisubika alleged that his tribulations started in June, when Amutuhaire, in the company of others, arrested him at Lwasa’s bar at Abayita Ababiri over unclear charges and allegedly robbed him of sh5m before he was freed.
A case of robbery was recorded on file SD Ref 62/29/06/19 at Entebbe Police Station. ‘‘A few days after the incident, men blocked my car along Kampala-Entebbe Expressway and robbed me of sh8m. They even instructed me to send sh500,000 every week to a mobile number 0750352798,’’ Kisubika added.
A case of attempted robbery was recorded on file SD Ref 09/29/06/2019 at Busega Police.

On Sunday night, Amutuhaire, who was reportedly in the company of one Richard Musinguzi, blocked Kisubika’s car at Abayita Ababiri along Kasenyi road as he was driving away from a supermarket.
Kisubika moved out of the vehicle and made an alarm that attracted a crowd. A team of Police officers from the nearby station came to the scene and called for backup. In the meantime, Amutuhaire and Musinguzi were trapped in the vehicle, fearing to be lynched by the mob. They were later arrested and whisked away to the Police station.
‘‘Amutuhaire was wearing a Police uniform, while Musinguzi was in plain clothes,’’ an eyewitness said.
Kisubika, who was in the company of a colleague, Paul Emalu, reportedly had sh45m and Emalu had sh5m, which they while received after selling fish maws.
Child murdered in Bugiri
Meanwhile, the Police in Bugiri district is holding six suspects in connection with the murder of a two-and-a-half-year-old child.

Police recovered the body of the boy in an abandoned shrine and arrested six suspects, including Ajambo. Other suspects are Majidu Mugenyi, Adam Kawanguzi, Hassan Mukama, Badru Mutanda, and Juma Igaga.
In another incident, the Police have arrested a one Winston Nabireeba for allegedly murdering his son, identified as Rodman Akankwasa, on July 1. Nabireeba, 27, is a resident of Soweto cell.
