FDC explains how Anite has exposed rags and rots in NRM Gov’t

Uganda’s Minister for Trade and Privatization Evelyn Anite

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has asked the state minister for privatization and investment, Evelyn Anite, to brief Police on who killed former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.

The party yesterday called on Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda to convene a meeting between Anite and internal affairs minister Gen. Jeje Odongo, for the minister to provide the information she has on who murdered the legislator.

Abiriga, who was famous for his love for the National Resistance Movement, was gunned down by unknown gunmen riding on motorcycles on his way to his home at Kawanda, Wakiso district in June last year.

Addressing journalists last week, Anite alleged that mafia in Government were after her life over her role in calling for an internal audit into the activities of Uganda Telecom Limited.

She purported that they wanted to kill her, the same way they killed Abiriga and former Speaker of Parliament Francis Ayume. A statement FDC says reveals that the Government knows who the real Killers are.

“These are not mere allegations, these mafia are not jokers, you go and ask Abiriga, ask late Francis Ayume,” Anite said.

At a weekly party press conference at Najjanankumbi based FDC headquarters in Kampala, the party’s deputy spokesperson, John Kikonyogo, yesterday said the allegations by Anite should not be taken lightly.

FDC called for a thorough investigation to be conducted to expose and uproot out the real killers in the Government who are threatening the life of the Legislator and Ugandans as well.

Last week, Rugunda dismissed the talk of mafia in the Government. The party also announced its party candidates for Hoima and Kaabong Woman MP byelections, as Judith Adyaka and Asinasi Kamanda, respectively.

“We want to thank other opposition parties for backing our candidates,” Kikonyogo said.
