Expressway Murder: Police says Victims were forcefully abducted from Hotels

In a new twist, it has emerged that former aviation operative and wife to a businessman were abducted from a city hotel and driven to the scene of the murder.

Although Police spokesperson Fred Enanga had earlier told the media that Merina Tumukunde Rugyenza and Joshua Rushegyera Nteireho were lured to the scene where they were shot dead, investigators now believe that Nteireho and Merina were literally abducted before they were shot dead.

Investigators privy to the probe described the murder as a ‘complex puzzle’ and said: “Nteireho was not in charge of vehicle by the time he left the Millennium Hotel to the murder scene.”

The duo was gunned down at Nambigirwa Bridge in the Kajjansi town council along the Entebbe-Kampala Expressway in Wakiso district as they headed towards Entebbe. Merina was the wife of Mark Rugyenza, a businessman running a chain of outlets in Kampala and Mbarara.

Sources said between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm, Nteireho’s car was seen (captured on CCTV cameras) along Entebbe Road at different times being driven by two different people. The identity of one of the people captured driving the car has not yet been established.

Nteireho’s official driver was identified as Timothy and is currently in Police custody. He remained at Innophine Hotel in Entebbe when Nteireho drove to Millennium Hotel in Zzana for a business transaction.

On a fateful day, Nteireho was sighted at three hotels: the Millennium Hotel in Zzana,  Innophine Hotel and Hidden Treasure Hotel, both located in Entebbe.
