Conspiracy theories rise over Bugingo’s alleged shooting

In a shocking incident that sent shockwaves across Uganda, the outspoken Pentecostal church minister, Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, narrowly escaped an apparent assassination attempt on Tuesday evening.

The assailants targeted Bugingo, claiming the life of his presidential guard driver. As the nation grappled with the aftermath, a surge of conspiracy theories flooded social media, prompting urgent police investigations.

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, condemned the use of deadly gunfire and urban crime in the East African country.

He expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation, stating, “Our country is so messed up that some ‘men and women of God’ feel safer with soldiers and guns rather than the presence of God.”

Despite past conflicts with Pastor Bugingo, Bobi Wine extended sympathies and called for prayers, urging everyone to rise above hatred.

He emphasized the need for unity and understanding, urging the controversial clergyman to use this experience to reflect on the challenges facing the nation.

The incident has left many questions unanswered, with the public demanding a thorough investigation.

Police, facing mounting pressure, assured the public of an expedited probe.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, revealed ongoing efforts to review CCTV footage to determine if Bugingo was trailed before the attack.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath, President Museveni, in his 2023 end-of-year national address, maintained that “Uganda was safe enough,” further fueling the debate on the country’s security landscape.
