Col. Nakalema to Head New Anti-Corruption Unit in State House

Col Edith Nakalema

Col Edith Nakalema, the former director of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, will now head the new agency within the state house tasked with protecting investors from extortion and the need to pay bribes.

The new anti-corruption team would be housed in the State House, reporting directly to President Museveni per his new directions.

In less than five years, President Museveni has established two anti-corruption units, both of which Nakalema has led as their director.

The original intent was to catch corrupt officials who had evaded the Inspectorate General of Government (IGG), but it failed to live up to its billing because it was likewise accused of scouring for small-scale thieves while leaving filthy unscrupulous officials to roam the streets day and night.

President Museveni recently stated that corruption was hindering Uganda’s economic growth and that he would crack down on bribery and corruption among government officials and civil servants.

The president promised to quickly organize a new team specifically for this task.
