Bukedea LC5 by-election set for 14th June

According to a recently published road map by the Independent Electoral Commission (EC), the electorates  of Bukedea District will vote for a new district chairperson on June 14.

In December 2022, with the passing of former Chairman Moses Olemukan, the seat became vacant. After only a year and a half in office, Olemukan perished of colon cancer.

The EC electoral road map indicates that the processes leading up to the by-election will begin on May 8 with the updating of the National Voters’ Register, followed by a 10-day public display of the register.

Registration as a voter is among the additional preparatory procedures for transferring the voting location.

The candidates will be nominated on June 5 and 6.

“Nominated candidates will conduct campaign meetings for six days starting June 7-12, 2023,” the EC statement reads.

The EC road map also indicates that on June 14, elections will be held to cover vacancies among the directly elected councillors of Bukedea Sub County, Mukongoro Sub County, and Kotiokot Sub County.

The officeholders are said to have resigned, some in order to run for the district’s top seat.
